Self-leadership with Karin Otterbjörk – sustainability, development and results

Self-leadership – training and coaching for a productive, sustainable working life

Taking — and being allowed to take — responsibility for your own development creates both productivity and sustainability in working life. Self-leadership isn't just about managing stress at work; it's also a key part of motivation and achieving your goals.

Our fast-changing, uncertain and complex working life places ever higher demands on personal responsibility and proactivity. That's why self-leadership has become an important and sought-after skill for employees and leaders alike. Many self-leadership behaviours can be trained — focus, prioritisation, setting boundaries and motivation, for example. It's also about self-control and self-awareness, so you can take responsibility for both your own needs and those of the group.

A recent study also shows that employees with well-developed self-leadership have greater wellbeing and are better able to motivate themselves and handle change. These individuals are guided to a greater extent by their values and strengths, and they were also shown to be more skilled at both giving and receiving feedback.

A proven process for strengthening self-leadership

Karin Otterbjörk builds self-leadership in organisations through a proven process based on:

  1. The goals and direction needed right now and going forward.
  2. Self-knowledge – how the individual works. Motivation, stress triggers and needs.
  3. Methods for self-regulation – new habits and behaviours.

Karin is the author of the book Palla Trycket – leading yourself and others to sustainable self-leadership. There are several ways to put self-leadership in place, and Karin offers a range of approaches — often based on the book Palla Trycket.

Self-leadership in practice – what it is, and how to develop your self-leadership skills

  • Self-leadership – Managing and growing through change
  • Leadership for self-leadership – What leaders can do to strengthen their employees' self-leadership

Karin was a natural fit for one of our talent programmes, where her part was to help participants build sustainable self-leadership. Participants came away with a range of tools they could use both in the programme, at work and in their private lives. I warmly recommend her and her services.

Corporate mindfulness boosts the organisation

In some assignments, Karin uses corporate mindfulness as a method. It combines mindfulness and neuroleadership, adapted for working life. Within self-leadership, it's one of the most powerful tools, because it increases our self-awareness and self-knowledge.

For example, we become more aware of what we think and feel. That lets us reinterpret situations or change the way we talk to ourselves, which has a positive effect on our mental capacity. Many people find that corporate mindfulness makes them less driven by impulse and better able to stay focused, prioritise, be creative, and feel a greater overall sense of wellbeing.

Sustainable employees with Corporate Mindfulness

An employee programme that strengthens and develops people's ability to deliver, grow and last over time. The programme is built on modern brain research and how we can apply it in working life, with methods drawn from a modern interpretation of mindfulness and neuroleadership.

The use and study of mindfulness in the corporate world grows every year. It's now more than 15 years since Google became one of the major tech companies to offer this kind of training to its employees. They saw the potential in teaching their people these techniques and strategies for developing their mental capacity, and more and more organisations have since followed Google's lead.

In Sweden, hundreds of participants have completed this very training, with excellent feedback. The programme consists of 8 sessions of 2 hours each (2.5 hours for the digital version, depending on the need for 2 short breaks).
