Karin Otterbjörk – speaker, author and consultant
Hi there!
I'm Karin. I'm the girl from Gotland who left the island many years ago, but my heart still beats strongly for it, and I go back as often as I can.
I've lived in Stockholm with my family for many years now. I find inspiration and recovery out in nature — in the mountains, on Gotland, or around Stockholm. It doesn't much matter where I am, as long as I get to be outdoors in the open and the beautiful.
The name of my company, Mairutveckling AB, comes from the Gotland dialect. Mair is the Gotland word for more. It's also the guiding star of my work: More Development. Without development we stagnate, lose momentum, stop being relevant, and above all, things get dull and dreary. So More Development it is!
I started the business in 2013, leaving behind the security of employment at various global companies. I had been a manager and leader for just over 15 years and loved it. But there were things that chafed, and I had a longing for something else.
My why – my drive and passion
The longing I felt was for a way to build business that is human. To do business smartly, based on our human needs. To genuinely work in a way that creates engagement, development, willingness and energy. There is enormous power in building your company around that.
My drive is to influence how we work so we can both perform AND feel good. How we can become our best selves in the short and the long term. That is my big "why"!
Human business creates results in a way marked by joy, trust and openness. In that context, everyone understands that we sometimes need to pause in order to have the energy to dance again.
I also believe strongly in the joy and power of collaboration, and I have a large network of experienced consultant friends.
I also enjoy the freedom of working independently on my assignments. That combination means I move comfortably between both large and small engagements.
